I know Everyboody Hates John Byrne, but STILL...

This sequence from John Byrne's Next Men #2 had me dying!

Federal agent Toni Murcheson is well-known in the NextMeniverse for handing out beat-downs, despite being one of the only characters in the book with no super-powers. She's like an older, cybernetics-free Misty Knight. Since you're pro'lly confused, that mess of black Kirby dots is some kind of involuntary time-travel thing that scattered the Next Men (and Toni) to the past, where she runs up on some good ole boys and nature takes its course.  My apologies to my neighbors who swear that the Confederate army was made up of fine upstanding heroes and who believe that slavery is a lie invented by Jesse Jackson... but this sample is hilarious.
You can get Next Men #2 at your local comic shop Wednesday January 12th, if you're so inclined...
holla!

Does everyone hate John Byrne?

not literally, but if you mention John Byrne fondly in a group of comics fans, you will be bombarded by Byrne Hate.

Those of us who do like John Byrne congregate on the forums of his website, where he generously takes the time to answer our questions. There’s no deying that he’s a talented writer and artist. He also has a tendency to alienate his fans. I was buying two copies of everything he did, one for myself and one to give to friends to get them interested in his work, until last Monday, when he declared I was to blame for children being shot. It’s depressing enough to incur the disapproval of one of your creative heroes, but when he lies about you to your face, that really makes you not want to put royalties into his pocket.

It’s a testament to how good a writer/artist he is that I went ahead and bought the above issue of John Byrne’s Next Men anyway (just one copy, this time).

the popular term for that is "douchebag"...
I'm a long-time fan of Byrne's work, but from what I can tell, the man is a douchebag. I generally avoid celebrities for fear that they will reveal that they are likewise afflicted. Because of my work, I sometimes meet comics or musical pros anyways, and I'm pleased whenever I find out they aren't.

I'm behind the times I guess but, what did Byrne say?

@Arkonbey: To me?

@felicity: Oh, it was on the forum? That explains why the web was silent. You've piqued my curiosity, but if you don't want to share, that's cool.
