ghettoManga Quarterly -the print version of ghettoManga- is looking for submissions! send me your stuff (art, comics, music, etc) and if i think it's fresh, you'll get in print. simple as that!
what we're looking for:
- Finished (black&white or color) Comics- if you want to submit your comic, please send me at least 5 pages of story. you know the drill, people: no pin ups, unfinished art or prose proposals... just legible comics pages. we print at 8.5x11 around here, so either reformat your work, or i will!
- Strips- comic strips are cool too, by the way. black and white or color.
- Articles, Reviews, Videos- comics, hiphop news art, culture... that's what i want to hear about. and i don't like whining ("so-and-so is wack... why isn't there any good hip hop, DC and Marvel suck really bad..."), so don't send me any of that! i wanna know what's Good. i mean, what's What's REALLY good!?! don't send anything that you don't want printed with your name, email address, and/or web address on, cause i don't wanna hear it if you get your ass whipped.
- Artists (pencillers, inkers, letterers)- i know lots of writers who need help, so send me samples of your work. also, let me know what kind of story you wanna draw... i'll hook you up with somebody!
- Photographers- I need pics BAD! anything you got that fits the theme.
- Illustrators- i know i said no pin ups, but i'll take really good illustrations of rappers, politicians, actors, or whatever. when used, it will be to illustrate articles and stuff.
- Press Releases- if you create fly stuff or know about someone who does, get at me and i'll check it out! could wind up in gM Quarterly!
any questions? wanna help? get at me!

Hey, Samax !
ReplyDeleteProps to you deciding to do the self publish thing. I'm in if ya have me ! Can you give me specifics ? How many pages will the book be ? Color or Black and White ? When do you want submissions ? How many pages can a story be ?
thanks. i've been self-publishing comics with the MIGHTY ghostWerks crew of and on for about 5 yrs, with varying degrees of success.
ReplyDeletei'm doing it thru cafe press, so it will be black and white with color covers.
i'm aiming at 100 pages per issue, but that's not carved in stone or anything... there will be comics, music reviews, interviews and other assorted articles. it will be a lot like my blog, just in print form. like the subtitle says, it's "comics. hipHop. news. art. culture."
as for story length, whatever you submit will be considered. shorts (like 5-8 pgs) can be squeezed in easily, but i also want longer stories (they can be broken into chapters and run consecutively if need be) and ongoing or serialized stories.
ex. if you do a 28 page story, i might print the first 8 pages, then the next 10, then the rest. for me, format is less important than good story.
if you want to do a serialized story, make even chapter breaks (5-10 pages), and if you want to be in my book, prepare to commit to at least one full story (don't do a cliffhanger ending, then bail... i HATE that!).
part of my reason for doing this is to help shine light on unknown talent, but please, if you get snapped up by a big publisher, just finish the story you commited to tell here. no one will be happier for you or more supportive of your move up than me, but the fans should come first. integrity will not kill you.
content-wise, submit whatever you want. i'm not looking for toon porn... other than that, i'm fairly open. if i think it's dope, we'll run with it.
submit asap, i'm putting together the content for the first issue now, so if you have something fresh, lemme see it! but because i'm trying to do an ongoing magazine, we have rolling deadlines (well, then they aren't deadlines yet, are they?), so if your stuff isn't ready, get it ready.
other than the commitments i described, i'm not really looking to lock up your property or artwork, so i will not ask for any rights, other than your permission to print what you submit (which includes reprinting, as i will keep the magazines in print). you can reprint all you want, and if image comes callin'... yippee for you.
on the chance the book makes money, i'll divide the profits evenly among contributers based on page count or some such.
but i'm doing this for the old corny reason:
LOVE muthafuckaz...
holla!

Brotherman,
ReplyDeletethe only reason Image would be picking me up is if I fall on a stack of Image comics at their main headquarters !
