Comicbook World #37- Can you say 'Tactile Holograms'?
"Up until now, holography has been for the eyes only, and if you'd try to touch it, your hand would go right through," says Tokyo University professor Hiroyuki Shinoda. "But now we have a technology that also adds the sensation of touch to holograms."
the new holograms they are developing will use ultrasonic vibrations to provide a sense of touch when a user interacts with a hologram. still in the rudimentary phases, researchers foresee practical applications like virtual switches in hospitals and other places where contamination is an issue. I can imagine that we might see holographic control panels on cell phones, computers and even cars that can be customized by the user... comics/movie nerds have already gotten used to seeing portable floating keyboards, and holographic concubines... what other applications can we look forward to with this?

Click to Enlarge Jamie Hewlett's Member
it's been my observation that if you watch any comics artist long enough, you will see them do side gigs. and lots of people use that as an excuse to stop doing comics altogether (the money in illustrating is waaaay better than drawing comics... and easier money), so it's good to hear an artist who puts it in perspective and (in my opinion) has his priorities in order! either way, these joints by Hewlett are awesome! the innuendo in the copy is hilarious, and of course the drawing is splendid. don't ask me where to get them, ladies (or gentlemen...), i just work here. get your google on!

why wasn't Transformers like THIS --->
the new Transformers film franchise is alright, (actually, i still ain't seen part 2) but i still think the robot designs are not iconic and memorable, the way the original designs were. one of the best things about the original cartoon designs was that each robot LOOKED like it turned into a car or airplane or whatever! you could see the tires and the windshields and the doors, etc and that was just cool! wish the designs would'a been more like this joint! that would have been better... combining the desire for real-world mechanical complexity with the more iconic and recognizable design of the original toy/cartoon. what do you think?

Breathe Slow by Mars ILL w/JAX (RIP)
good morning party people! just figured i'd bless you with some quality hip hop once again. one of my absolute favorite hip hop crews -the "he's the deejay, i'm the rapper" combination of Manchild and Dust known together as Mars ILL- dropped this jewel a few years ago, but Breathe Slow off their sophomore LP Backbreakanomics never gets old. it's an anthem for the downtrodden and underappreciated that'll remind you to "take what's meant for you, no longer survive on what's passed down... win or lose you'll live your life knowing you never backed down." if those ain't words to live by, i don't know any...

What'chall Know about Slaughterhouse?
i haven't spent much time worrying about Slaughterhouse [the bi-coastal super group made up of Joe Budden, Crooked I, Royce Da 5-9, and Joell Ortiz... and their new album of the same name], but when i heard the song Salute on the Revolutionary Times blog, i had to pause... the track features an ominous vocal hook by the mighty Pharoahe Monch, whose bluesy crooning stylee is dope enough to make me worry that he might stop rapping like every other dope emcee with a li'l singing ability. at any rate, Slaughterhouse appears to be nice. hell, Crooked I could hold my attention all by himself, so i might have to get this album... does anybody have this already? let me know what's up with it... should i buy it?

Comicbook World # 35- College Student Kills Burglar with Samurai Sword
After being victimized once before (thieves reportedly got him and his roommates for their laptops and a Sony PlayStation), an undergraduate medical student at Baltimore's prestigious Johns Hopkins University went all Rurouni Kenshin on Tuesday, killing a burglar with a samurai sword after he caught the intruder in his garage, police said. The student will not likely be charged with anything if the burglar's death is ruled self-defense.
Ronin by Maverik
Police received a call for help at 1:20 am after the burglar pried open a side-door into the garage of the house, which four students rented off-campus, according to Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "They asked him to stop and while they called police, the suspect lunged at the student. He then retaliated by striking him with a samurai sword, severed his left hand and gave severe lacerations to the upper torso," he said. "I think everyone has the right to first of all defend themselves and defend their home and if this individual felt that a samurai sword was an appropriate tool to do so, I'm not in a position to say that's good or bad," Guglielmi said.
Africana is Samurai by Evilyn81
Could this be a sign of things to come? could gun-control laws turn the samurai sword into the hot home invasion deterrent? Will rappers start toting them, till they have to be blurred out of rap vids on MTV? after reading about this on the AFP, i was definitely thinking about copping one of those samurai longswords those stinky guys are always selling at comic and anime conventions! i've been thinking about taking martial arts classes, but maybe swordsmanship might be needed as well. hmmm... i wonder if one of those stinky dudes can get me a blade that looks like the Green Destiny...

Expect the Unexpected
DOOM is one of the most original and uncompromising voices in hip-hop. From his work in the 90’s with the seminal KMD to his legendary releases under a variety of aliases including MF Doom, Madvillain, King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughn, Dangerdoom & more, his prolific body of work has always valued artistic integrity and creativity over anything else. As numerous and varied as his albums are, DOOM also has a thick catalog of guest appearances, remixes, non-album tracks, & vinyl only singles. For the first time, Unexpected Guest presents many of these hard to find tracks as a mix CD, executed and overseen by the Super Villain himself.
With a list of co-conspirators which includes marquee level names such as Talib Kweli, Ghostface & GZA as well as underground heroes Vast Aire, CountBass D & Kurius, the music on this disc highlights DOOM’s ever-present trademark wit and taste for raw and ominous beats. On “Trap Door,” he spits couplets like “No curse words / DOOM the worst church nerd verse heard” over a plucked bass and guitar line from producer Jake One that sounds like the funkiest spy movie soundtrack imaginable. “Sniper Elite” sees the emcee united with the late J Dilla, and is one of the many tracks featured that has yet to see an official CD release. The album will also feature a never before heard live version of DOOM’s classic “I Hear Voices” from the Operation Doomsday album.
Peppered with his signature comic book dialogue and vintage sound clips, Unexpected Guests presents a treasure trove of DOOM obscurities which should shed light on material that even some hardcore fans may have missed. It’s a frenetic, virtuosic look at a true hip-hop original.
1. Get ‘Er Done feat. DOOM - Jake One
2. Fly That Knot feat. DOOM - Talib Kweli
3. Sniper Elite feat. DOOM - Dilla Ghostface DOOM
4. Trap Door feat. DOOM - Jake One
5. Sorcerers feat. DOOM & Invizible Handz - John Robinson
6. Da Supafriendz - Vast Aire
7. Quite Buttery - Count Bass D feat DOOM
8. ? - DOOM featuring Kurious

10. E.N.Y. House - Masta Killa

develope Styles with a DEATH Device Cooked in
yo... up late drawing again. despite serious caffeination, i was having trouble getting going tonight until the rotation hit We're Famous off'a Aesop Rock's brilliant underground opus Bazooka Tooth, at which time it was off to the races! this is my shit, mostly for the autobiographical first verse by Def Jux founder El-P. 'Sop and El are mostly beefing with L7, Eso or some other dudes in their crew... but that's not why i like this song. this joint has two gritty emcees who pretty much cut a path in the underground and mastered the art of being obscure and famous at the same time. on this song, they revel in it, and diss cats just for the fun of it, over a beat that's old school and futuristic at the same time! i remember bumping this a few years ago when i was dating this chick from houston, who could not understand why i was geeking over these two white dudes from new york! she was listening to David Banner and Li'l Flip at the time, so i understood why she didn't get it, but for a cat like me who's been working hard at being an overnight underground success for ten years, this joint hit me right in the chest!
well, i gotta get back to work...
