Actually the original Deathlok was black. And from Detroit if memory serves. He play a prominent role in Dwayne McDuffie's Beyond mini-series a few years back. This new Deathlok appears set in some future divergent Marvel timeline or something. The first issue read like a novel written in expository dialogue.
