Lea Hernandez is working on a fresh all-ages vampire family comic called The Garlicks starring Pandora, a middle school aged vampire who wants to be a graphic novelist. The book has a great cast of characters and fun supernatural sit-com style, so I put down $25 to get a signed copy of the book when it comes out, and I think you should too...
Here's the sales pitch:
Our supernatural hero, Pandora Garlick, is the big sister of baby Pamila (who's usually called Ham), who seems to have gotten everything Pandora didn't, like being able to shapeshift into a winsome (and annoying) flying fish and a taste for meat.
Pandora, with no answers for why she isn't a proper vampire, turns to her passion, making comics, and chooses her family as her muses: the exhausting Ham, her vampire father Vourdain Garlick (a flower-eating barista), her human mother Olive Garlick (a baker-turned-butcher), and their home/business, Orange Espresso and Meats.

For those keeping score at home, Lea Hernandez is a top notch professional cartoonist. She's worked for both Marvel and DC, co-created Killer Princesses with Gail Simone for Oni Press and flew solo on Rumble Girls at Image. In an industry that just doesn't know what to do with talented females, Lea has done the right thing jumping on the wave of crowd-funded self-publishing! With The Garlicks Hernandez is set to launch a webcomic and graphic novel that can actually hit with girls. Anybody who loves comics should get excited about projects aimed at girls, because girls who read comics grow up to be women who read comics... and women can outspend men any day of the week. That's not sexism talking, that's marketing, tough guy!
"Where do you get your ideas from?" is the #1 question comicbook creators get asked. This time it has a simple answer, as seen above. So in case you missed my point, I want YOU to click here to pre-order The Garlicks... like, RIGHT NOW!
Even if she doesn't reach her goal, it will still help. Go be a part of helping something SWEET get made.
holla!
