PREVIEW- Eartha Kitt: Femme Fatale #1

It seems like an odd choice to make an all ages superhero comic starring the late Eartha Kitt as a masked action hero, but once I got a look at this preview of Eartha Kitt: Femme Fatale #1, and knowing her family is cool with it, I was cool with it too...

In case you're too young to know this, Eartha was a singer, actress, author and all around superstar. Orson Welles cast her as Helen of Troy in his  staging of Doctor Faustus, calling Kitt "the most exciting woman in the world." She took over the role of Catwoman in the third season of the 60's Batman show, enshrining herself in fanboy eternity.
Kitt's anti-war comments at a White House Luncheon (that reportedly brought Lady Bird Johnson to tears) lead to her being blacklisted in the U.S. for decades. She remained a sought-after star in Europe, and eventually people in the U.S. got over it, too. I personally LOVED Kitt's hilarious turn as the leering nympho diva Lady Eloise in the 1991 Eddie Murphy movie Boomerang. Kitt provided the voice for Yzma in The Emperor's New Groove and won two Emmy awards and two Annie awards for her portrayal of the character on the television series The Emperor's New School. Eartha Kitt remained active in film, on the stage and television until she died of colon cancer on Christmas Day of 2008.
Anyways, here's the Sales pitch to the comic:

Eartha Kitt is on holiday, searching for the purrfect wave. When suddenly... well, we won't spoil the surprise. But in the tradition of DC Nation and all good things for all ages comes Eartha Meets The Gorgon, the first in a series of adventures done with the blessing of the legendary actress/singer's estate. Written by New York Times Bestselling Author Marc Shapiro, Eartha Kitt: Femme Fatale is the long anticipated return to good clean fun.

This comic looks like fun. I'm  loving the art by Felipe Montecinos and Ricardo Ayala. I might buy this for my daughter. I mean, I'm gonna read it too, but I'm stockpiling stuff to read with her, and cute black lady surfing and fighting giant sea creatures is right up her alley! Eartha Kitt: Femme Fatale #1 arrives in stores February 6th (but you can cop the Kindle version right now), proving once and for all that you can't keep a good woman down!
