PREVIEW- X-(Wo)Men #1, featuring (mohawk) Storm, and the return of Jubilee

For decades, Marvel's X-men has been the gold standard for diversity in comics. And I'm not just talking racial, national, and ethnic diversity. X-men has always featured the most complex and capable female characters in the superhero genre, so I guess it was just a matter of time before an all-female X-team hit the shelves, led by alpha-female number one, Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm. Here's some preview pages by superstar artist Olivier Coipel...

Yeah, son: Jubilee is returning to the X-men, and she's got a shortie in tow? I'm sure the baby is a girl, so as to keep the Estrogenesis in full effect. So the role call is: Storm, Rogue, Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey, Rogue, Psylocke and unnamed X-baby. If the past is any indication, that baby is probably gonna have more powers than Jack-Jack on The Incredibles.

What was I saying? Oh, yeah! Diversity. Since it's kind of a boys' club, the comic book industry has a tendency toward objectifying its female characters, and thus alienating the potentially massive female readership that is out there looking for stuff to buy. I can't say that an all-female X-men book will change that (especially with an all-male creative team), but I can keep the dream alive. Anyways, X-Men #1 drops May 29th, ladies! Just sayin'...
