"The Truth" by the mighty Jake One, Freeway and @BrotherAli. Video directed by Rik Cordero #nowPlaying

Man, this is my sheet. From time to time, whenever I'm feeling down, I pop The Truth in for a quick boost. Pure fire, son! Blending almost opposite characters like Freeway and Brother Ali on the same song, The Truth illustrates the power of the deejay in hip hop culture. The stories these two emcees have to tell both deserve to be heard, and it takes a connector to decide they belong on the same record.
The Truth is a single from the 2008 banger White Van Music, by venerable Seattle-based hip hop producer Jake One. White Van Music is a great sampler for anyone curious about hip hop, yet turned off by what they see of the music on teevee. Because of the cross-cultural nature of the GhettoManga audience, I get a lot of my readers who have trouble understanding how I claim to be so into hip hop even though I can't stand the stuff they hear on "hip hop" radio stations and television shows. I can't even begin to explain the difference in the time I have between all the stuff I do on a daily basis. Suffice to say that hip hop is vast, Jake One's White Van Music represents the kind of hip hop I like. So click here for a quick education. If you still have questions after that, get at me.

Samax Amen draws people, places and things for fun and profit. He is the artist of many great comics you never heard of like Herman Heed, Champion of Children, The Brother and The World As You Know It. He even writes and draws his own comics, like Dare: The Adventures of Darius Davidson, Spontaneous, and Manchild when he gets around to it. Because making comics is hard and stuff, he started GhettoManga as a blog in 2006 and as a print magazine in 2008.
