the Badass Witches of Helheim return for Vengeance: BRIDES OF HELHEIM by @CullenBunn and @Joelle_Jones via @OniPress

I never read the Oni Press action fantasy comic HELLHEIM by Cullen Bunn, Joëlle Jones and Nick Filardi, but this new spinoff/sequel BRIDES OF HELHEIM features undead warriors, weapon-toting witches and disproportionate revenge. Hellz. Yeah...

The sales pitch:
Years have passed since Rikard's victory over Bera and Groa. In defeating the witches, Rikard saved his people. And yet he cannot rest. He is still denied the promise of Valhalla. The warrior is condemned to wander the living world as an undead draugr. Now, a new challenge lies before Rikard: to face the demon beast Mórðvíg in a brutal conflict.

Oh no they didn't! Yeah, this looks insane!

For those uninitiated to the exploits of Rikard and 'nem, here's the sales pitch for Helheim Volume 1: The Witch War:

"Once the threshold of Helheim is crossed, not even gods can escape." The age of Vikings. Savage wild men, dark creatures, and hideous undead are pawns in the war between witches. A hero named Rikard pays the ultimate price in this conflict... but his fight is far from over. Raised as a draugr - an undead killing machine - Rikard is meant to be used as a weapon in the supernatural conflict. But Rikard will not be controlled. And where the draugr treads, death follows!

The art on this comic by Joelle Jones is dope, and I have enjoyed Cullen Bunn's writing before, particularly on the team of lady badasses in Fearless Defenders
(led by Misty Knight and Valkyrie). Combine that with the promise of badass chicks lopping off undead domes and stuff, and I think you got a winner in Brides of Helheim. We will get a chance to find out when Brides of Helheim #1 arrives in stores October 1st.

Peace,

Samax Amen draws people, places and things for fun and profit. He is the artist of many great comics you never heard of like Herman Heed, Champion of Children, The Brother and The World As You Know It. He even writes and draws his own comics, like Dare: The Adventures of Darius Davidson, Spontaneous, and Manchild when he gets around to it. Because making comics is hard and stuff, he started GhettoManga as a blog in 2006 and as a print magazine in 2008.
