Happy birthday to the late, great James Baldwin August 2, 1924 - December 1, 1987

"Love takes off masks we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within."
-James A. Baldwin

If you never read anything except comics, magazines, and blogs, you might not know who James Baldwin is.  If you care about civil rights, gay rights, diversity, or incredibly good writing, you should probably get familiar.  I was only marginally aware of this prolific and multifaceted wordsmith (I only knew his name because he is so quotable) until I got married to my wife Charlene, who adores his writing, activism, and social criticism.
I screen capped this photo of Baldwin from this incredible music video for The Problem by 7even-Thirty and Gensu Dean and photoshopped my favorite Baldwin quote onto it for the blog post I wrote a while back. Just thought I'd share it, since it was his birthday today.

Peace,
-samax
Samax Amen draws people, places and things for fun and profit. He is the artist of many great comics you never heard of like Herman Heed, Champion of Children, The Brother and The World As You Know It. He even writes and draws his own comics, like Dare: The Adventures of Darius Davidson, Spontaneous, and Manchild when he gets around to it. Because making comics is hard and stuff, he started GhettoManga as a blog in 2006 and as a print magazine in 2008.
