LEON: Protector of the Playground by JAMAR NICHOLAS wins the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics!

Philly-based cartoonist Jamar Nicholas was surprised to find that his new long-awaited graphic novel LEON: Protector of the Playground won the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity last week at Long Beach Comic Expo.  While he was not able to attend the ceremony, he did release this brief acceptance video afterward.

After participating in a successful crowdfunding campaign with two other cartoonists, Jamar was the last to complete, publish, and deliver his book into the world.  Life, death, and everything else got in the way, but while production slowed, stalled, and staggered, it never fully stopped.  Now that LEON is out there, it is bringing Jamar some interesting experiences to say the least.

"Thank you all, for the well-wishes and congratulations," Jamar wrote in a post sharing his acceptance vid on Facebook.  "I'm glad that I have been able to add to the conversation of positive images of African-American people, rather than the opposite with my cartooning. All of our choices matter. As I've said before, you either build or destroy."

I am always excited when Jamar is successful.  He's a hard working cartoonist who makes it his business to share what he knows and inspire others.  Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! LEON: Protector of the Playground is available on Amazon and other places books are sold, but you can CLICK HERE to cop a signed copy with awesome stickers and goodies direct from Jamar!

Have a great day!
