#MusicToDrawTo : TODAY by Grip Grand

If you're looking for some good background music for your escapades at the drawing board, you need to put August 24 on your calendar, cuz that's when Grip Grand's crate-digger cover album Outsider Art drops.  For now, enjoy the lead single which interprets the iconic sample of a golden era hip hop classic...
Sales pitch for Outsider Art:
"Outsider Art" is an extremely meta exercise in sample-appreciation: Live-instrument covers of famously-sampled songs, which covers are then sampled themselves and flipped into new covers of the famous songs that sampled them. Plus a couple updated arrangements of crate-digging classics, and an 808-hued take on an indie rock staple. All played on primarily children's toy instruments, by a person with no actual training on any instruments at all.

I fux wit Grip Grand.  I first became aware of him because of his fiendishly good fake collabo record with real life cartoon supervillain MF DOOM, an album that had to be called GG DOOM! But How?.

Since this is a Music To Draw To post, here's the instrumental album.  Enjoy!

He is the artist of many great comics you never heard of like Herman Heed, Champion of Children, The Brother and The World As You Know It. He even writes and draws his own comics, like Dare: The Adventures of Darius Davidson, Spontaneous, and Manchild when he gets around to it. Because making comics is hard and stuff, he started GhettoManga as a blog in 2006 and as a print magazine in 2008.
