in a move that i doubt surprises anyone, Dallas gave Coach Avery Johnson the ax after the Mavs' 3-1 first round ouster to the Hornets. Avery's Mavs had NO answer for budding superstar guard Chris Paul or the schemes of Byron Scott, this season's Coach of the Year.
"Their Coach and point guard have great chemistry" said Johnson, who has been consistently disappointed with the guard play of these Mavericks, probably dating back to facing Miami's Dwayne Wade in the '06 NBA Finals. A former NBA Champion guard himself, Avery has probably felt inadequately equipped at the point in a division that includes Paul, Tony Parker and Tracy Mcgrady...
with Avery gone, Mavs owner Mark Cuban will have to hire a brand new skipper for the highest-paid, yet underachieving ball club. Larry Brown's off the table, but Mike D'antoni (who will likely be 86'ed by Phoenix), Jeff Van Gundy, and Rick Carlisle would all make good choices.
we'll see...

I got debates. I'm not as in depth with the inner workings of the NBA but I got doubts that the coach is the problem. This balance is all jacked. To expect instant change mid season after selling off half your team is stupid to me. I expected more from the Suns, but Spurs have their science down pretty good, hence why I'm a fan. The hateful eyes are the same as the Utah Jazz with John Stockton and Karl Malone, except Spurs won championships. It's funny. At any rate, I would figure that balance is either gonna take more practice or more shifting. However, I suppose if you quit practicing a game before the last you got problems. Anyway.
the coach wasn't the problem, per se... the team quit on avery.
they were having parties while getting beat up on by the hornets.
they were not trying on defense this season.
it was time to make some changes...
fact is, Avery will be better off elsewhere.
ahh...
Now THAT makes sense.
