a New LOSERS poster and Trailer is out

Zoe, oh my dear Zoe. How i LOVE you, my dear... OH! didn't see you standing there (awkward)...
um, yeah so here's a fresh new poster and trailer for The Losers, the eminent new dubbayoubee flick that's adapting the hella tight DC/Vertigo spy-fi series about a rogue covert ops crew gunning for revenge against Max, the backstabbing government suit who tried to take them out.

LOSERS Release date moved BACK to April!

I made such a big stink about Warner Bros. releasing The Losers in June that they went ahead and moved it back to April 23rd. You're Welcome.
Okay, I guess it's POSSIBLE I had nothing to do with it... but let's not split hairs! the IMPORTANT thing is, I win! now, don't let those snow flurries fool ya! April is right around the corner, so if you still haven't read the comic, click here to cop that joint cheap on Amazon... no need to thank me. Spreading the message of hope, love, and dope Spy-Fi comics is the only reward I want! well, that and Zoe Saldana... but I'll take what's in my reach, knah'mean?

Is Warner Brothers Playing to LOSE, or what?

I guess Warner Brothers isn't as excited about the Vertigo spy-fi comic-turned-feature-film The Losers as I am... The studio inexplicably decided to push the movie back from its scheduled April 9 opening to open instead on June 4th. This was motivated (i guess) by their desire to push the Clash of the Titans debut to April, but now The Losers will open with a remake of the cartoon Marmaduke, one week before the remake of the eighties action show The A-Team.  I feel pretty comfortable saying that The Losers will be better than The A-Team, but I'm equally sure that "Eighties Nostalgia" beats "Under-the-radar Vertigo adaptation fever" in the movie version Rock-Paper-Scissors. movies get pushed back all the time, but this move makes NO sense to me. anyways, to share in my ♥ for all things Losers, click here.

What do you Think of this LOSERS trailer?

here's the trailer for The Losers, which adapts the DC/Vertigo Spy-Fi comic of the same name. I don't know how this movie could possibly be as good as the comic, but it does look pretty freaking awesome... fine ass Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, The Terminal) plays Aisha, and my man Idris Elba (Obsessed, Rock N Rolla, American Gangster) plays Roque, so I'm in there (some other people are in it too LOL!). Most people will not know this is a comics adaptation, so click here  to cop The Losers, Volume 1&2 (extra cheap at just over 13 bucks) and make yourself look smart when people start talking about it when the movie drops April 9th. I've been geeking on this comic and movie adaptation for a minute, but the way I see it, the more the merrier! if you wanna read more of my ramblings about The Losers (who wouldn't?) click here.

So Far So Good...

here's a bullet point from my NOTES TO COMICS ADAPTATION DECISION MAKERS: "if you're making a movie based on a comic with dope artwork, please get the artist of said comic involved in your movie poster process." somebody's paying attention because those geniuses that are making the big screen version of DC/Vertigo's The Losers actually had Jock (The Losers, Green Arrow: Year One) draw the poster. i have fingers and toes crossed for this film based on the excellent Spy-Fi comic by Jock and writer Andy Diggle. i reeeeeally want it to be GOOD! the film has Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, The Terminal), Idris Elba (Rock n' Rolla, Obsessed) , and Jefferey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) in the cast, so they have some things working form them so far...

READ THIS

The Losers Vol. 5: Endgame is finally in stores, rapping up the spy-fi series that inspired the Upcoming action thriller. Vol 5 answers all the questions, blurring the line between comicbook fiction, fringe conspiracy theories, and real-world political intrigue. Andy Diggle really knows how to write a comic that is both heady and exciting at the same time, and Jock's art is so ILL that you have to be reminded that the pictures aren't moving. if i get to that Borders 5 for 4 sale (sale ends on Monday!), this is definitely on the list!

a born Loser...

if you were able to watch Star Trek without falling in love with Zoe Saldana (The Terminal, Drumline), then you are made of sterner stuff than me, homey! you'll get another chance to show what a heartless bastard you are when Zoe shows up on screen as the tough-as-nails Aisha from the movie version of the bangin' Vertigo Spy-fi Conspiracy comic The Losers, due to hit next spring. you can go here for my review of Ante Up, the first Losers TPB, but suffice it say, there's lots of shooting, government corruption, and blowing stuff up.

The Losers (which will also star Idris Elba, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Columbus Short) will be directed by self-proclaimed girlfight fan Sylvain White (Obsessed, Stomp the Yard) so hopefully Aisha will be as much of a jawbreaker in this as she is in the comics. the source material lends itself to an easy movie adaptation, and so far, the cast is mustard. let's all cross our fingers in anticipation of a great movie. The Losers is due out April of 2010.

a Win/Lose Situation...

the Losers, by Andy Diggle and Jock
"it's got spy crap in it. but in a good way!" that was all the recommendation i needed... see, my friend mike is a pretty good judge of what won't work for me in a comic. when he was gushing to me about his new favorite comic, The Losers (published by DC/vertigo), he said "i've never seen any comic do spy crap as well as they do it in film... until now. and (the artist) Jock is a fucking badASS!"

so there you go! i just finished reading AnteUp, the trade paperback collecting the first story arc about the newly rogue black-ops special forces team, the Losers. after seeing something they shouldn't have, the team is whacked by the CIA, or so it seems. now the Losers are back, with new team member, Iraqi killing machine/CIA mole (and seriously fly chick... don't tell her i said that!) Aisha (foreground in the cover art at left), and they are giving the crooked government bigwigs the muthafreakin' bizness.

anyways, the point is, this mess is the BOMB!!! and yeah. Jock is a Bad Ass... collectors should scoop these issues, as they will surely be valuable when he goes on to draw Batman, Daredevil or some other top-selling comic. the book has the kind of severity and elegance in the action sequences you rarely see, and Jock's sense of style, framing and pacing is breathtaking!

i've got two more trades to read, so i won't go on too much. I advise buying the TPB, but you can download a PDF of the whole first issue for free here...
