One of the reasons I love Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead, The Destroyer) is his sense of humor. i joined this drawing blog called ArtJumble recently. last week's theme was "Captain America"... i didn't have time to do a new piece, so i just submitted the one i drew last month, but i figured i'd post this one by Dave Pryor here on ghettoManga since it featured the Star-spangled Avenger shaking hands with that dude president O. see, i just assumed Cap was a Republican, but after this revelation, Civil War actually makes a little bit more sense...

for the most part my day has been pretty blahzay... but that was before i found out David Alan Grier was dropping a book called Barack Like Me: The Chocolate Covered Truth. this pretty much made my day! i imagine it will be a book full of political parody tapping the wealth of jokes that comes from the worst administration ever handing the keys to the nation over to the first black President. Grier's special brand of funny works in sketch comedy and in stand-up, so we'll see how it flies in print. honestly, Grier had me sold with the title! David Alan Grier's new book Barack Like Me hits shelves at bookstores nationwide October 6, 2009!

They only have a black president in the movies or comics when there's gonna be some kind of catastrophe (see The Fifth Element, Deep Impact, 2012), so i guess that's why everybody's losing their mind now... Iran is Buggin' Again, writing a drama with it's so-called elections that's stranger than fiction. Chechnyan gangster/terrorists suicide bombed a provincial Russian President into critical condition. meanwhile North Korea is feeling SOO Nuclear right now, and has a ruler who's just DYING to go Kaizen Gamorra on your ass... it's real in the field, son! it's almost like years of programming have conditioned the human race to think of black dudes as either a cause for alarm, or the ultimate go-to guy that can snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat on some Michael Jordan ish! hell, maybe they just see President Obama as some kinda big, black good luck charm.

the good news is that if life is immitating art, Black presidents tend to kick ass at handling world-threatening crisis situations! Obama has already saved superheroes in comics almost as much as they've saved him, Morgan Freeman quarterbacked the salvation of the human race in Deep Impact, and at least President Zeus was lucky Bruce Willis had his back in Fifth Element, right? so as much as Rush 'nem wish Obama's presidency will be a failure, if the collective unconscious has been telling anybody anything, they might need to stock up on their Haterade. Brotherman's here... Everything's gonna be alright!

okay, so i finally finished writing the blog posts for the 2008 ghettoManga Award Winners!
the awards usually drop in february, but with the new baby and freelance project, came late this year. awards are handed out for excellence in comics, hipHop, art and popular culture. nominees were selected by myself and anyone who wanted to write in, and winners were selected by fan votes. thanks again to all the people who contributed or voted (and especially to all the nominees for goin' hard in '08!) in the biggest gMa's yet!
