no, my boy Drew doesn't have a rap album, action movie, or graphic novel coming out... i gave his portrait its larger-than-life aura because Drew is a big-time Superman fan. he has a tattoo of the Man-of-Steel's iconic symbol on his back, a Superman chain he wears on his neck... he's got a Superman TIE, for pete's sake! you only have to talk to him on the phone once to know he does everything Godzilla BIG, so i made sure to bring that superhuman steelo to his portrait, ya dig? anyways, i drew (heh) this with watercolor brush pens and cranked it up a few notches with photoshop. let me know what ya'll think! Vision was dope!

Vision -the last ArtLoveMagic Show of 2008- was dope. each piece in the show sported a one-word title it exemplified. i hung 2 pieces in the gallery (my theme was Motherhood) and did sketches and brought greeting cards and postcards for the people. there were lots of other artists of all types on hand. all the ArtLoveMagic events i've done have been heavily attended and this one was no different. The exhibit (including the piece shown here-which has already sold) will be up through Thanksgiving Weekend at the Mokah Art Gallery just off Canton and Malcom X in Dallas.

the calm before the storm...

i haven't been blogging very much lately, just working feverishly to wrap up ghettoManga Quarterly's debut issue, get ready for Playlist, the art show with the mighty ghostWerks crew on August 21st, and prepare for the impending birth of my daughter. at any rate, all three are on the brink, so stay tuned for news about all that as it develops.

Dare gets endorsement deal

ghettoManga is able to confirm that Darius Davidson, star of DARE! the adventures of Darius Davidson has indeed landed an endorsement deal with emerging hipHop clothing label Ziontific.

Speculation has been flying around here at the gM offices as to whether the diminutive risk-taker would be featured in the new gM Quarterly magazine...plus, there have actually been rumors that Darius would be featured in his own solo book. "I don't know about all that," teased the young star "but i'm just tryin'a promote this clothing line right now. after that, we'll see..."
Rumor has it, the bigwigs here at gM are trying to work out a deal to reprint early Dare appearances from The Champion of Children Afterschool Special and ghostWerksComics #1, and the early webstrips from the now-defunct ghostWerkscomics.com. we tried to reach the guys at the new site (www.ghostWerks.com) but they were not available for comment.
at any rate, Ziontific has rolled out a few new designs for the public at its online store, and expects to have more stuff ready for the summer convention season.

quickie CAPE report

yes, i AM fly in my "True and Livin" hoodie. don't hate, emulate!
CAPE was a blast! i mean, i really had fun. the weather was very good this year (cool in the morning, but warming up in the afternoon), and many neighborhood folks strolled over to the show at Craddock Park out of pure curiosity! of course, tons of fans turned out to meet comics stars like Mark Waid, Jason Pearson, Gail Simone and Bryan Hitch... and they were nice enough to stop at my table for a minute, too! i took the opportunity to sell copies of Spontaneous, Mine All Mine, and the ghostWerks classics Champion Of Children Afterschool Special, Champion Of Children: The Legend of Challenge, and the extra-splendid ghostWerksComics anthology.
