 No matter how many projects he does that I don't like, I always get excited when I see Bart Sears is working on a new comic. His exaggerated anatomy and bold action scenes made a huge impression on me in the early nineties, and it's always good to see someone of his caliber getting more work. So anyways, here's a preview of The Protectors #0, the new joint he's working on with Chicago Bears D-lineman Israel Idonije and Ron Marz.

Unlike our's, Mark Andrew Smith and James Stokoe's Kickstarter campaign  for their baseball horror graphic novel Sullivan's Sluggers doesn't need you. Sure, when I checked the link for it and put in my little $30 pledge, they had already raised something like 450 bucks of their $6,000 goal. By the time I got home from work, got my three year old fed, bathed and in the bed and sat down at my computer to drop this blog about it, it was at over $16,000 (a little less than three times the goal for those keeping score at home). So I know they don't need me to promote it, or you to pledge on it. But what the hell? Let's do it anyways...

yeah, I watched the Superbowl. Yeah, I was pulling for Pittsburgh. Yeah, I knew Green Bay was gonna win. No, I'm not hating, but I was really just trying to watch some good commercials with my wife. Yeah, we are twisted here in America... The commercials for the most part, were mad regular. Only a few managed to stand out at all, and two of them featured the mighty Marshall Mathers...

Ali Versus Superman comic returns!

DC announced on the 23rd that Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams' Superman Vs. Muhammad Ali will finally be reprinted  after over 30 years of waiting. Likeness rights kept the book in no man's land (the cover includes the likeness of mad celebrities from Frank Sinatra to Christopher Reeve), but i guess they got all that worked out.

DC will drop two versions of the book in 2010. A deluxe hardcover edition featuring a new Adams cover and additional sketches dating back to the original book's publication, and an even more deluxe special edition hardcover which reprints the original story at its original treasury size. no release date or prices were announced, but i'm sure all that deluxe-ness will cost a grip.

I hope he's wrong. I've always loved Allen Iverson. My Dad first turned me on to him. Dad's a fierce fan of Philadelphia Sports and loved Iverson for his tenacity, his drive, and his willingness to throw his body amidst defenders with much more size and strength. It had an affect on me to see how quickly my Dad became a dedicated Iverson fan, despite the cornrows, tattoos and thug attitude (all things I would typically expect my Pops to despise). At the end of the day, if you played fearlessly, with that much passion, nothing else mattered.
Monday night Allen Iverson will return as a player for the Philadelphia 76ers, in a game against his former Denver Nuggets. That game will be broadcast on NBATV. I've been following the news on AI for the past several weeks. I've been annoyed by a lot of bad sportswriting (many writers I was reading kept bringing up Philadelphia's proximity to Atlantic City- sigh). I've also been struck by how AI's former teamates and coaches from John Thompson, to George Karl, to Larry Brown, to Mello, to Eric Snow all have commented that they think AI should return to the league and can still contribute at a contending level.

I'm happy this story is returning to the city that it started in. Philly has great love for AI. As bad as things have gotten, this is a chance for him to return to a team where he has a legacy, and a lot of support. I'm happy for my Dad. Philly's been loosing a lot of games by one or two points lately. He'll be a lot happier when they start winning those games.
I'm throwing my bet behind AI's success: that he'll improve their game, will stabilize himself, and will still be there at the end of the season (maybe even in a playoff spot). I'm willing to make that bet, not just because it's possible, but because I'd really love to see it happen.

Remember the Titan

it's been a rough summer. in what turns out to be just the latest celebrity death, Steve "Air" Mcnair was found shot to death in a condo in Nashville. i still don't know the circumstances of his death. McNair played quarterback in the NFL for 13 years, was a four-time Pro Bowler, and took the Tennessee Titans all the way to the Superbowl in 2000, where they fell just short to the high-powered St. Louis Rams 23-16. McNair, who retired after the 2008 season, was 36.

that dude Jeremy Biggers is back again with another one o' these hand-painted (yeah, i said HAND PAINTED!) fitteds, this time featuring NBA MVP Lebron James. sweat him hard enough and he'll do you one, but he don't repeat himself, so you can't have the same image on your lid unless the one shown here hasn't sold yet (yeah, right!).
