Everyone has been fantasizing about what they would do if they won the Powerball, which was over a billion dollars until a handful of people won it last week. Of course, I would put money into perfecting my self-publishing machine, but I would also devote a good portion of it to invest in comic book artists who create comics I want to read, but that I probably won't get to read because artists either have day jobs, or wind up getting sidetracked into working on projects for other people.  Eff what you heard! The only thing missing from the black comix underground is money! And if I had the money, I'd put it where my mouth is. Here's five easy bets...

"WALKING WITH GODS" starring David Banner is my new SHEET!!!

Jackson, Mississippi's favorite son David Banner is beating up the game again, this time with the debut of his live action superhero web series Walking With Gods, in which he stars as Alex, a southern cat whose perfect life is upended when an evil deity decides to get all up in his shit. Credits also include the mighty Dawud Anyabwile (Brotherman) on storyboards and producing and John Jennings (The Hole, Black Comix, Black Kirby) on graphic design.

Wishlisted- "The Black Panthers for Beginners" by Herb Boyd and Lance Tooks

The Black Panthers is one of the most misunderstood groups in history for a whole host of reasons. I was very pleased when that dude John Jennings shared this book Black Panthers for Beginners illustrated by our Black Comix bredren Lance Tooks (Lucifer's Garden of Verses, Narcissa).

Harlem Book Fair: Black Comix Discussion on C-SPAN!

The authors of Black Comix: African American Independent Comics, Art and Culture (John Jennings and Damian Duffy, if you ain't already know), as well as other luminaries in black comics and prose like Dawud Anyabwile (Brotherman) and L.A. Banks (Vampire Huntress) are participating in a conversation about literacy in the digital age. The panel discussion is taking place at the Harlem Book Fair, so if you're in the area, check it out!
