Don Cheadle reprises his GREATEST role...

Every Republican's worst nightmare has come true! No, I'm not talking about Obama's second term... Well, they are really buggin' about that, but something even WORSE has happened: Tree-hugging demi-god Captain Planet has taken over the world, and it turns out HE'S a black dude, too?!
OH HELL NAWL!!!

Jim Rhodes stars in ongoing series Iron Man 2.0

I bet you didn't know War Machine (the black Iron Man played by Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2) was getting his own ongoing book called Iron Man 2.0... oh, you did? Well, I had no idea! Not sure why this surprises me, but it does. Makes sense though, since they are making these multi-gillion dollar movies now. Way to capitalize Disney!
I'm sorry, what was I saying? OH RIGHT! Peep some preview pages from issue one and two of the series below...

((I'm SO there...))

trailer for Brooklyn's Finest, starring Don Cheadle (Talk To Me, Traitor, Hotel Rwanda), Wesley Snipes (Blade, Passenger 57, New Jack City), Richard Gere (An Officer and a Gentleman) and Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Lord of War). Directed by Antuan Fuqua (Training Day). In theaters March 5th.

Iron Man 2 trailer

If you haven't already seen that IronMan 2 trailer apple.com has on their website, click the pic above to check it out. Iron Man was one of the pleasant surprises of 2008, now just as Marvel's War Machine comic is wrapping up we're getting the next wave of marketing for his big screen appearance. War Machine doesn't have any dialogue in the trailer (nor does his unmasked alter-ego Jim Rhodes, played this time around by Don Cheadle), but he's clearly playing a prominent role. The first film did a good job of balancing light-hearted comedy with dark attitude and action, so hopefully this one will too.

"If you ain't want him kilt, why'd you leave him with ME?"

(l to r) Don Cheadle and Denzel Washington from Devil in a Blue Dress
today I watched Devil in a Blue Dress on cable (satellite actually, but that's not the point, is it?). while the headliner of the movie was the excellent-as-usual Denzel Washington, what makes this movie noteworthy for me -the reason i've seen it so many times- is the film's REAL star: Don Cheadle, whose character Mouse Alexander brought a bit of Texas gangster into the noirish gumshoe flick. Tony Stark Doesn't Care about Black People!

Iron Man star Terrence Howard got the boot from the super-popular superhero franchise because he wanted too much money... or so the story goes... "the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on..." said Howard, in an NPR interview, denying that he was vying for more scrilla.
As far as i know, Howard is being replaced in IM2 by Don Cheadle (Traitor, Ocean's 11, Hotel Rwanda, Devil In A Blue Dress), but DC hasn't released a statement yet... whoever portrays Jim Rhodes in the next Iron Man will be suiting up in the souped up Mark II armor in an increased role as War Machine, just like he did in the comics when Tony was too sauced to fly...

"Your Movie Needs More White people!"

legendary film star Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Witness, The Color Purple) is having a bit of trouble. see, he wants to direct a movie telling the true story of Francois Toussaint-Louverture, the slave who rose to become one of the fathers of Haiti's independence from France in 1804, making it the first black nation to throw off imperial rule and become a republic... but he's been getting the same question from all the producers:

"Producers said 'It's a nice project, a great project, but where are the white heroes?" said Glover. "The first question you get, is 'Is it a black film?' All of them agree, it's not going to do good in Europe, it's not going to do good in Japan."
Glover said he needs a paltry $30 million to make the film, and wasn't having much luck "I couldn't get the money (in France), I couldn't get the money in Britain. I went to everybody. You wouldn't believe the number of producers based in Europe, and in the States, that I went to," he said. so far, Glover has about $18 mil. and where did he get it from, you ask? a cultural body set up in 2006 by his friend, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (you know, the guy who called President Bush the devil from the floor of the U.N.) to counter what he termed "the Hollywood film dictatorship".
NICE! anyways, the film is
Due to be shot in Venezuela early next year, and will star Don Cheadle, Mos Def, Wesley Snipes and Angela Bassett.
i'm SO down...

Real Talk Radio

Last night my wife and i rented Talk To Me, the story of ex-con-turned-radio personality, talk show host and community activist Petey Green. set firmly in Civil Rights/Berry Gordy era DC, this film is masterfully written, directed, and acted.
Petey's story is sure to relate to hipHop fans with his fast-but-always-real talk. Veteran actor Don Cheadle plays Green, a born Hustler who effectively talks his way out of a 5 to 10 prison bid when he meets the sharp-dressed radio exec Dewey Hughes, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor (Four Brothers, Serenity, Inside Man, Children of Men), who inadvertently gives Petey the Idea that he'll hook him up with an on-air gig when he gets out.
The Movie is a story of relationships: Petey's relationship with his community, with Hughes, with his woman, played brilliantly by Teraji P. Henson (Hustle and Flow, Baby Boy, Smokin' Aces, Four Brothers)... and all the characters' relationships to each other and the growing consciousness of the Civil Rights movement. this is the best film i've seen so far from director Kasi Lemmons (Eve's Bayou, Dr. Hugo, The Caveman's Valentine), who gets authentic, rich performances from comedians Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps (fabulous as Hughes' brother in Prison) and guides the film on an atypical path, while preserving the depth of emotion in the script.
if you're looking for a good movie to buy, or at least rent on DVD... i recommend Talk To Me.

i'm black like Don Cheadle shouting POWER(s) to the PEOPLE!

i've been reading Powers sporadicly for some time now. in fact, i'm sure i have the first several issues tucked away in my comic collection somewhere. but since then, i've mostly read an issue here and there from khalid's collection (shout out to my man bigSteelo!!!). but recently, i stumbled onto 30 or so loose issues (2 seperate runs of consecutive joints!) in Half-Price Books for a dollar a piece.
WOW! what a great comic!

for those who don't know, Powers is about Deena Pilgrim and Christian Walker, two homicide cops who cover murder cases involving super humans (or, "powers" as they are called in the world of this book). written in the style of cable cop dramas like Homicide, NYPD Blue and The Sheild, Powers' shockingly raw, edgy, R-rated storylines are accented by loose cartoony artwork and jaw-dropping cliffhangers. Powers is the indy comicbook that introduced most fans to super-scribe Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spiderman, Secret Wars, New Avengers, Daredevil), -although a few knew him from Torso- and artist extraordinaire Mike Oeming (Cross Bronx, Hammer of the Gods).
i recommend this comic to grown-ups who devoured superhero comics as kids, but then outgrew the genre... but ONLY grown-ups: Powers has the most profanity and adult content of any comic i have ever read, and no matter who you are, you'll see cuss words used in ways you didn't see coming... still, a great great read (and reread!)

after copping these, i'm now HOOKED!

holla!
