going from movies to comics will seem illogical and backwards to some, but it's not. Even though comics doesn't generate the money that film does, it doesn't cost what film does either. and there's one thing that comics knows how to cultivate: Fans that will spend money on movies. This is a good look for BOOM! as well, who have managed to get connected to several projects (NOLA, Incredibles, The Muppet Show) with movie/TV properties, talent, or both. What do YOU think?

here's the unreleased Afro Samurai pilot, leaked by that dude LeSean Thomas from the safety of his new digs in Seoul, Korea. The original Pilot was produced by MADHOUSE animation studios, and directed by Takeshi Koike (Animatrix: World Record, Dead leaves, Trava Fist Planet) in 2003. eventually, Samuel Jackson got hold of the film and TV rights to it, and as a result Spike TV tapped it for production by GONZO instead. the rest (as they say) is history.holla!

yeah, i know a lot of you haven't been listening to my suggestions that PROOF is one of the best comics out there (although enough were wise enough to vote it the ghettoManga Comic of the Year in 2008), but Sam L Jackson obviously reads my blog and agrees with me! i mean, why else would he be campaigning to voice John Prufrock on the small and/or big screen? according to Comics2Film.com, that's just what he's doing homey! so what can you do? go back and read my previous blogs, read previews, etc. by the time something materializes, you'll be able to say you knew the deal all along!holla!

the Sound and the Fury
The Hollywood Reporter says Sam Jackson has been signed for appearances in nine more Marvel comicbook movies- including Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, possible sequels to these and, perhaps most interestingly of all, the lead in their in-development S.H.I.E.L.D movie. for those who never heard, fans geeked out so hard over SamJack's post-credit shout out because we were CALLING for Sam to play the character, who was reimagined black (and in his likeness) by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch in The Ultimates. anyways, i'm sure some of these will amount to cameos like he did in Iron Man so he'll still get to curse people out in other universes as well...uno.

Gordy’s son Kerry 'longside John Davis of Davis Entertainment will hold the reigns. well-traveled bad muthafucka Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Shaft, The Negotiator, Afro Samurai) is on board to play the prettyest, meanest, the baddest brotha of his carreer, Sho ‘Nuff.
“I’m a huge fan of the original" gushed Jackson, "and look forward to bringing Sho ‘Nuff into the 21st century.” the bigwigs wanna release The Last Dragon next year, to coincide with Motown’s 50th anniversary.we shall see...

there is a sole survivor, and he is MIRACULOUSLY unharmed...
so for those who don't know me personally, i work at a call center (because freelance art is a wee bit unstable) four nights a week, on the graveyard shift. since i got married last year, i live pretty far away from work, requiring a 45 minute commute. well, on the way home this morning, i fell asleep at the wheel and woke up with a face full of federally-required airbag, surrounded by the twisted metal, glass and plastic that usedta be my Neon. i pulled myself out of the smashed up window, and walked out of the cloud of dust to see an off-duty fireman who had stopped to help me. the shock on his face looking at my car made me feel like i had to calm him down..."it's okay, dog... i'm a'ight..."
soon i was surrounded by cops and EMT fussing over me and the car, repeatedly telling me what i already knew: I was damn lucky to be Alive. as i sat in the ambulance letting them check me over, i couldn't help thinking of M. Night Shyamalan's instant-classic Unbreakable, because that's the kinda guy i am...

Sam L has been the surprise villain in the best superhero movie that was never a comic (Unbreakable), a hero in the best superhero animated film that wasn't either (The Incredibles), and the most powerful man in the free world in a superhero comic (the Ultimates) that influenced at least one Marvel movie franchise (hint: go see Iron Man again... and THIS time, stay after the credits!). now, Jackson has been cast as The Octopus, the arch nemesis of The Spirit (in the upcoming film of the same name), flagship character of the greatest comics legend you never heard of... the late, great Will Eisner. the film, which is directed by comics icon Frank Miller, will be out in 2009.until then, peep the teaser, and look forward to seeing more trailers here.

Jumper never quite gets off the ground...
as a big-time comics fan, I thought that a movie like Jumper would fulfill my need to explore a fantastic world on the big screen, so my wife and I went to check it out. We didn't expect a GREAT movie, but for our money would like to see a good one.we didn't.
Jumper has the problem many movies of the sort have: it never lives up to the 'Big Idea'. the visual effects, powers and "origin" of David (the title character, played by Christensen) are illustrated well enough, but the story was not well executed.
Sam L. Jackson is convincing as a Paladin, one of an order of religious zealots who hunt Jumpers, but we are never really told why, beyond the repeated vague statement that "only God should be able to be all places at once." Designed, I suppose, to play upon the increasingly popular sentiment that all religious people are idiots who profess to serve good, even if it requires the commission of horrific acts of violence. in other words, people of faith are all haters... yawn. as i recall, "Jumper" is an adaptation of a novel, and the motives of the Paladins run deeper than this. would'a been nice to include that in the movie...
of course, there is a girl for the main character to be smitten with, but she's horrible and she and Christensen have no chemistry at all. so anyways, this movie had lots of potential. it might make a great comic in the right hands, as the story was very thin, but begged more room to explain and expand on themes. writers of the story would really benefit from people being able to ask questions, which could be answered later. creative people should check it out, a because they could learn how to play with an idea... and how NOT to neglect your audience!

Sam L Jackson (Afro Samurai, Star Wars prequels, Shaft, Pulp Fiction) and Hayden Christensen (Star Wars prequels, Life As A House) will be starring in a new film called Jumpers next year (based on the 1992 Steven Gould sci-fi novel) about a breed of mutant teleporters ("Jumpers"... get it?) and the sect of hunters who track and kill them ("Paladins"). since the movie website is trash, i'll recommend you to this blog instead for more info on the film.holla!
