Snyder Begins- A few Words About BATMAN: THE BLACK MIRROR

I have never read any of Scott Snyder's work, even though he comes highly recommended.

Last week I decided to read his Batman run. So I started with this Detective Comics story arc BATMAN: THE BLACK MIRROR on hoopla digital.

BLACK PANTHER VS JUSTICE LEAGUE!!! Wait... not really...

Yes, I clicked on this cover that has an obvious Black Panther knock-off ripping the techno-jugular out off'a the highest-ranking African-American superhero in the DC Universe fully prepared to talk about how pop-culture stays pitting black Americans against our African counterparts, but I was clearly getting ahead of myself, because Justice League's scribe PRIEST helped make BLACK PANTHER the phenom he is in the first place.  Let's jump back and preview the previous issue, then see if it helps us contextualize this one.

5 comic book artists I would PAY to work on their OWN comics

Everyone has been fantasizing about what they would do if they won the Powerball, which was over a billion dollars until a handful of people won it last week. Of course, I would put money into perfecting my self-publishing machine, but I would also devote a good portion of it to invest in comic book artists who create comics I want to read, but that I probably won't get to read because artists either have day jobs, or wind up getting sidetracked into working on projects for other people.  Eff what you heard! The only thing missing from the black comix underground is money! And if I had the money, I'd put it where my mouth is. Here's five easy bets...

"This isn't a mudhole. It's an operating table. And I'm the Surgeon." -the Goddamn Batman.

Ran across this screencap on Twitter recently. It's from an episode of Batman: The Animated Series called Legends of the Dark Knight that paid homage to three different eras of Batman's pop culture history. This segment is a shout out to the gloriously vicious mudhole brawl from Frank Miller's industry-bending graphic serial The Dark Knight Returns.

PREVIEW- "BATWING #31"

This cover for Batwing #31 by Dan Panosian is sick. Neither Batwing nor Dan Panosian appear in this preview below, but it's still worth peeping.

Batwing's getting white girls in trouble again...

I have no idea what's going on in Batwing... I wish I did. But anyways, you should read this preview anyways...

In stores NOW- "BATWING #15"

Wow... this comic's on issue 15 already? I can honestly say I have never even seen this comic in the store. Not saying it isn't there, just that I've never seen it. I don't read any other Batman comics, so maybe I unconsciously skip the "Bat" section? Anyways, I snagged this preview of Batwing #15 for you...

HOLY CRAP! That WolfSmoke "Bat Man of Shanghai" joint is HARD!

I haven't watched television in months. Not bragging or anything, but I don't think I've seen anything everyone's bugging over since before the Olympics... but this DC Nation Bat Man of Shang Hai short is on YouTube now, so there you go...

John Lucas joins us in the 21st century!

my big homie John Lucas has a blog now. Yeah, really! click the sweet Batwoman pic to get a glimpse of his skills, then head over to his wordpress joint, leave comments and tell him to post more. He makes his money drawing stuff good, so he'll enjoy the feedback. To peep more of his original art than he currently has on his blog, click here.

Batman + LeSean Thomas = HELL YES!

Looks like the people over at Batman: The Brave and the Bold headquarters recognize game, cause they got that dude LeSean Thomas (Boondocks, Ben10: Alien Force, CannonBusters, Arkanium) to storyboard the payoff on the episode Revenge of the Reach, which features a space battle between the Green Lantern Corps and a suped-up Blue Beetle!

"Green lantern Corps, Challengers of the Unknown AND the Scarab alien armor? This show packs a punch for fans of the series." says the ghettoManga Award-nominee.  "It's also my debut episode as Story Board artist. I boarded ACT 3, the epic, 12-minute Green Lantern Corps Vs. The Reach battle. Sheesh, you try drawing 15, different, alien, ring-weilders all getting the crap kicked out of them each in unique ways by shape-shifting, amor-clad Aliens with Blue Beetle as their evil leader!" LeS continues.

"It took a while to adjust to the storytelling/drawing style, but i got comfy really quick. NOTE TO ASPIRING STORYBOARD ARTISTS FOR 2D ANIMATED ACTION SHOWS: If your director gives you Act 3 of the script as your first assignment, you're supposed to take it as a COMPLIMENT, not a deathwish! [laughter]"
