That damn @DanLish1... ain't Nuthin' ta f*!k wit...

As an illustrator learning to better myself through positive thinking, I've learned not to compare my work to that of other artists.  For example, I NEVER EVER measure myself against the brilliance produced by dudes like Brighton-based drawing machine Dan Lish.  'Cause THAT mofo can draw his ASS off...

ya Gotta Put me on...

as you know, it is our mission here at GhettoManga to spread the message of fly junk to the masses... and fly junk is definitely represented in the Bonita Applebum white tee by T.I.T.S (Two In The Shirt).
Of course we all like fly chicas and their respective backsides (who doesn't?), but since 'bonita' means beautiful in Spanish and the apple has Biblical connotations, people will ascribe extra meaning to it...

fresh art by Jim Mahfood for Miles Davis bioplay

your boy FOOD ONE (aka ghettoManga Award-winning artist and deejay Jim Mahfood) is a huge fan of Miles Davis. He recently did this drawing, which is being used for the program of a play about the Jazz great, being put together by media assassin Nelson George (Good Hair, A Survivor's Tale). To add even more to the coolness quotient, the play will star Q-tip as Miles Davis (more info on this as i get it). On his blog, Food professes his obsession with Davis' double album Live/Evil and it really shows in this piece... click the pic to admire the skills.

Hey Kids, I drew a COMICBOOK page!

whattup... it took me a minute, but here's page 2 of Herman Heed, the kids' comic I'm working on for my favorite client. Before you ask: yes, the chick in panel 2 is rocking  a De la Soul tee. She's listening to Tribe on her iPod too, in case you're wondering. Did I mention this script is DOPE!?!  Well, it is...  Anyways, I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed drawing it! in case you missed page one, click here

He’s guided by a clone of The Notorious BIG who visits him from the future. did you get that? okay, so The art on this is by this cat out of Texas named Profesone, and directed by legendary hip-hop visual artist Skam 2, who was the creative force behind artwork for Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP and A Tribe Called Quest’s Beats, Rhymes and Life, among others.

No Common Sense?

Since his silver-screen debut in Smokin' Aces has been followed by turns in American Gangster and the upcoming action flick Wanted, Common has decided to quit rapping to persue film full time.

"I need a new fulfillment as an artist. I feel like I can become a bigger actor than I am a rapper. It's scary thinking, 'Damn, if I don't sell no records, what am I going to do?' When you haven't made multi millions in this game, you got to think about what you want to be doing when you're 50 or 60. I found an art that I really love and it's infinite."

cash rules.
how this will effect that record he was supposedly doing with Qtip is not really clear, but we shall see how this ball bounces...

De La Soul means "From the Soul"...

any idiot can make a list of "great" artists that influenced hip hop. actually, i do it all the time! but who the heck am i, anyway?
but perrenial rap veterans De La Soul caught the attention of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who named the daisy-age classic Me, Myself, and I as one of the 500 Songs That Changed Rock and Roll.

no, i didn't read the list (so don't ask), i read an article by another music geek who went to the venerated Hall recently. But yeah, the De La cut is a undisputed classic, from their classic album 3 Feet High and Rising. De La Soul, and their massive Native Tongues familia (which includes such pioneers and greats as Tribe Called Quest, Black Star, and Common) is responsible for setting so may trends i don't even wanna think about it!

i'm currently colaboratin' with my man Khalid to do ceedee package design for a Native Tongues/SpitKicker "re-mixtape" by DJ balance and (De La's own) Posdonus (aka plug one), so i'm 5 degrees away from the R+R hall of fame... or something.
