We're obviously champions of creator-owned indie comics here at GhettoManga... but there is something special about watching a creator get the chance to work on a property they truly love. After years of interacting with Ross Campbell (Wet Moon, Shadoweyes) on the internet, I know Ross LOVES the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so it is especially cool to watch him illustrate the Turtles on this IDW book.

Samurai VS Vampires... FIGHT!!!
This came out last month, but I forgot about it. Yeah, sue me... Look: Do you want this preview or not?
some Ninjasday rap isht from MarQ Spekt & Huey P Capone
At my urging, President Obama issued an executive order changing Wednesday to Ninjasday when he first took office, but then niggas figured out he wasn't gonna be able to make it rain or whatever and stopped listening to him and Ninjasday lost steam... But then that dude Marq Spekt sent me this Snake Eyes Vs Storm Shadow Volume 1 tape, single-handedly bringing Ninjasday back on some grass roots shit... See? You CAN make a difference!

Ninjasday Newsflash!!! NEW Gratuitous Ninja Website!
True to his promise last week, that dude Ron Wimberly has blessed us with a new episode of Gratuitous Ninja: Loan Sharks. This would be news enough for a quick post, but you will also be happy to know the creator has hooked up a little mini-site for GratNin, so this would be a good time to bounce over there and check it out! So head over to the Gratuitous Ninja homepage (click here for the current episode or here for GN:LS episode one) and get acquainted! If you've already read this weeks ep, go here for more fawning over Ron's work.

for Ninja Lovers only
I've been sporadically reading Gratuitous Ninja, the excessively ghettoManga webcomic by that dude D-Pi aka Ron Wimberly (Sentences:The Life of MF GRIMM) for a little while, but because of the way it's embedded in his blog, I haven't been able to go back to the beginning of the comic. the art is great, but I have no idea what's going on... so thankfully, he has collected the first 5 years of GratNin into a 52 page joint called Ninjaversary for just $20 on Lulu.com! This book includes the original GratNin that started as a love letter published in the Pratt Static Fish as well as Panel Space, the rarely seen GratNin art project done for Brooklyn International Film Festival. The book also includes pin ups by incredible talent like Ghostshrimp, Lesean Thomas and Raphael Tanghal. as soon as I can cop this and read it, I'll hip you to it! also, feel free to go ahead and jump into the deep end at his blog at d-pi.com. holla!

More Fun With Ninjas
comicbook artist, illustrator and confirmed ninja lover Jim Rugg (Street Angel
, Afrodisiac
, The Plain Janes
) was commissioned by a magazine (that will remain nameless, but it wasn't ghettoManga Quarterly...) to draw this exhaustive ode to ninjas, and the silly bastiches didn't even USE it! well, we are happy to give this piece its proper shine here (and Jim, the invitation to do something for ghettoManga remains open!). for more of my posts about Jim Rugg's work, click here. Ninja commission art
Nuff respect to that dude J.R. LeMar for taking advantage of the convention prices on Holla Day Commissions to get this drawing of his original character Ninjihad. i mean, y'all know how i feel about ninjas, so you know i enjoyed drawing this! and homeland security has nothing to fear: Ninjihad's a good guy , and he's already a fan favorite in the ghettoManga office!anyways hope you're enjoying your Ninjasday... the week's half over, people! hang in there...

Start The Day Off Right------->
it's well known that Ninjas LOVE Wu-Tang Clan, so it makes sense to start off Ninjasday with a fresh Wu-Tang classic! rather than go with Protect Ya Neck (as i started to), i decided to go with the lesser-known Hollow Bones off classic Wu record The W. dope verses from Rae, Inspectah Deck and Ghostface that are definitely Ninja-approved. I know lots of people are hitting the road today for the holla day weekend, so be safe out there!

Quotable: NinjasDay Wisdom
"If your story is about ninjas, be sure to mention them in the first sentence. If it's not, why isn't it?"- from the fake AP Stylebook,
Style tips for proper writing
-In case you didn't know, I have flexed my close personal relationship with President Obama (because all black people know each other) and we have officially changed Wednesday to Ninjasday. Appropriately, we at ghettoManga will break you off a Ninja-approved video of some sort (to help you Start the Day off Right) plus some Ninja-related wisdom every Ninjasday morning without fail for the Quotable, and seal it with my new joint Ninja Solutions every Ninjasday Afternoon. if you have art or Ninjaworthy content to share, hit me at ninjaSolutions@ghettoManga.com. if our staff of Ninja experts deem it worthy, you'll see it on a Ninjasday!
