In the nineties I was reading lots of superhero comics that were critiques of the genre. That is, the characters often existed as an example of what not to do.

My first attempt at this was the creation of the anti-hero Agent Orange.

To the extent that people know my work as an artist, they know me primarily as a freelance illustrator. But before I ever managed to get anyone to pay me for sequential work, certainly before I ever got my hands on any digital coloring tools, I created this character and wrote, drew and lettered comics (in pencil only) for my own pleasure and the entertainment of a few of my high school classmates.

This is my first time drawing him in over twenty years. It felt good...

I came up with the character Dandy Lion in 2012, when I was working at the e-learning company Study Island. The character was borne of one of those puns so visual that it keeps bouncing around in your head until you let it out and give it a mission.
