Quick Preview and Review: Indego Blue

I pro'lly wouldn't have bought Indego Blue #1 if I hadn't interacted with series artist Howard Russell on Twitter. Even after following a link from his Twitter to view the title's cover I wasn't interested in buying it. I took it for one of those boring anthro comics that are so popular among manga fans... Nothing wrong with that, I guess, but I myself am not into them. Luckily for me, I got a chance to thumb through #1 at my comic shop, because it's pretty dope...

New Usagi Yojimbo Plushie coming in May!

According to those fine folks at Dark Horse, Stan Sakai is celebrating the 25th anniversary of everyone's favorite Rabbit Ronin with an all-new plush toy, with art direction by the creator himself!
for those who don't already know,  Usagi Yojimbo is a long-running comic set in seventeenth-century Japan, with anthropomorphic animals replacing humans, featuring the lovable rabbit ronin, Miyamoto Usagi, who wanders the land as a shugyosha (student warrior on a pilgrimage), occasionally selling his services as a yojimbo (bodyguard). Usagi Yojimbo is one of the most celebrated ongoing comics, adored by critics and fans of all ages for the last twenty-five years.

The new Yojimbo plush will stand fourteen inches tall from his carefully detailed sandals to the tips of his movable ears. Stan Sakai, who provided extensive reference art for the project, oversaw every detail in the design process.

“I have always thought that a doll of this type would be an excellent presentation of Usagi,” Sakai remarked, “and have been happy to assist as the prototype evolved with commentary and revisions. I think he came out very well indeed.”

There are already well-received Usagi Yojimbo AME statues, so fans can look forward to adding to their collection of Usagi t'ings! The upcoming Usagi Yojimbo plush toy hits Diamond’s Previews this month, with an on-sale date of May 2010, so you can pre-order from your comic shop, or on Amazon.com.
