i just read issue #4 of the Luna Brothers' new suspense/ fantasy/ superhero wet dream: The Sword. these guys (who brought us Ultra, Girls, and Spider-Woman) are on a whole other level.
the book features a paraplegic college student who comes in contact with a mystic sword that restores her ability to walk and transfroms her (or presumably anybody who weilds it) into a warrior of mythic proportions, but not before those who seek the sword's power for themselves brutally murder her family.
although the tone of all their books stays the same, the Lunas bring that disttinct style from one genre to another flawlessly. like film makers equally at home directing straight superhero pictures (Ultra, Spider-Woman), a sex-soaked horror flick (Girls), or fresh-faced fantasy story, the Lunas drag their fans from one genre to the next, having complete faith in their ability to deliver the signature blend of sensitively executed storytelling.
but yo, don't let the smooth taste fool ya, the violence quotient is sky-high! so far, the reluctant star has skewered all comers, and the Lunas are reportedly planning a twenty-four issue run! so get in early! click the cover on the right to read #1 for free!
