if you've got windows, you have what it takes to collect solar energy! yes, the sci-fi staple of a solar-powered world is getting closer to science fact, according to
grist.org. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a light-absorbing dye that, when painted on a window, transfers energy via the glass into solar cells at the window's edges.
don't run to Home Depot looking for the dyes just yet... Issues remain to be solved. the new dyes are not as fragile as the original ones conceived in the 1970s, but they still have a lifetime of only about three months, MIT electrical engineer Marc Baldo told New Scientist. "That by itself is not good enough, but it's on the way."
that's what's up!
