that dude from the coke commercial, 2Fast2Furious, and that poster on your girlfriend's wall is looking to have the highest presales in comicbook history! yeah, Tyrese Gibson is apparently the only person who knows how to promote a comic! when i found out he was doing his own comic, i started following him on Twitter, and i can tell you for sure, i have never seen anyone work harder to promote a comic before!
besides the fact that he is actually PROUD to have a comic in the works, Reesey also has recorded a song for free download titled Mayhem, Take Me Away, secured a relationship with the largest comicshop in the Los Angeles to serve as the home base of his comics operation, and created a website dedicated to putting the word out and empowering fans to street team for the book, and shamelessly plugs the book while promoting the new Transformers movie. most people who make comics don't even tell their co-workers, but Tyrese is doing it GODZILLA big, and he's getting results.
Gibson's book Mayhem! (you gotta include the exclamation point) is the Gem of the Month in the Image Comics section of Previews (the catalog shops use to order comics). his bottomless enthusiasm is evident and effective... "In the COMIC book world" the singer says "getting GEM OF THE MONTH is like getting Album of the MONTH! Very BIG DEAL!" and the enthusiasm is spreading. while he's doing interviews in other countries, people are already asking about Mayhem! before he can bring it up. his stated goal is to break the preorder record, and if his attitude is any indicator, he's gonna do it! many celebrities have made a foray into the medium, but Tyrese is writing the book on how to launch a comic. if others follow his lead, making comics (and reading them) could take a step towards being something that isn't considered uncommon, for fans only. and as a lifelong fan, i'm here to tell you, that's exactly what the medium needs!

what's up daywalkers? i been up all night drawing! in addition to my freelance comics gig (pages soon come) i knocked out another commission. this time, it's Blade for my internet homey JR Lemar! we got into a conversation on Facebook that had me ready to submit a treatment to Marvel. this character was nailed in movies by Producer/Star/NumberOneNegro Wesley Snipes, and hasn't ever been done nearly as well in comics. if i get a chance to do a Blade comic, i promise i'll KILL it...

I was wasting time on the tre W, and ran across this webcomic called The Blue Wraith. I will not go so far as to say that it's good or anything, but just the fact that it has a villain called The Sureshot (conjuring snippets of Greg Nice on a Preemo beat) had me straight amused. check it out. it's only 11 pages, a real quick read... it's not like you're busy or anything... looks like the artist is drawing it straight on his computer. like i said, not exactly good, but i found it amusing... 
the Museum of Uncut Funk is officially the shiznit people! they CONSISTANTLY educate me on the untold history of black comics. their feature on Black Music and Comics not only covered books i knew about (KRS ONE's Break the Chain), but they dropped dime on books about Public Enemy, Ice-T and 2 Live Crew (cover seen here) that i never even HEARD of... and that's just the hip hop stuff! but the Museum always goes deep to break you off the knowledge, and sports a comicbook collection any comics nerd would covet! peep 'em here...

Actor David Carradine(Kung Fu, Kill Bill) was found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok. A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room and was believed to have committed suicide. whatever the case, we tip our hats to the iconic actor, and pray for his friends and family. he'll most definitely be missed.

yeah, i know a lot of you haven't been listening to my suggestions that PROOF is one of the best comics out there (although enough were wise enough to vote it the ghettoManga Comic of the Year in 2008), but Sam L Jackson obviously reads my blog and agrees with me! i mean, why else would he be campaigning to voice John Prufrock on the small and/or big screen? according to Comics2Film.com, that's just what he's doing homey! so what can you do? go back and read my previous blogs, read previews, etc. by the time something materializes, you'll be able to say you knew the deal all along!

for those who didn't know, i finished my largest freelance assignment to date a couple weeks ago. it wound up being an 85 page long graphic novel with full color art and letters by me. i was very pleased with the accomplishment, and more importantly, so was the client! after taking last week to exhale, i started on the next assignment yesterday. i'm also working on several other projects, including getting the ghettoManga magazine back on track (begining with the summer issue). thanks to everyone who helped me stay motivated, and to all the readers who support my comics and this blog!
even if ya'll have, I Ain't F'got about that upcoming trade paperback starring Nefertiti Jones, an ass-kickin' sista carrying on the proud tradition that her name implies. within the pages of Southside Nefertiti:The REMIX (Fist of the Southstar) we will see that dude Randolph "Pencilism" Williams return to draw the gritty street dreams of writer-creator Mike Sales. i'm not sure when it's gonna be done, but i'm more than willing to wait, if it's gonna be like the pages seen here. as my long-time readers know, i straight CUT for the perfect blend of Sales and Williams on Nefertiti. if you've never read it, peep a sample here.

maybe you guys already knew this, but Bruce Willis (Die Hard) and Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, Superman) are both rumored to be attached to the film adaptation of Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's transcendantly DOPE spook nightmare RED. i can TOTALLY see Bruce Willis as the retired CIA monster who the newly appointed government bureaucrats should have known better than to mess with.
