In case you somehow managed to to not know, Marvel's highly anticipated Netflix series Luke Cage dropped this weekend. This music video Bulletproof Love by Method Man (ripped in full directly from an episode of the series) stands as a great example of how the show pays homage and respect to black pop culture.
To help Cage evade capture, Meth exchanges his hoodie for Cage's bullethole-ridden one. Wearing Cage's tattered sweatshirt with pride, Meth sparks an establishment-defying fashion trend.
This is entertainment activism at its best. Luke Cage manages to address many of the social problems faced by people of color in a show-not-tell manner. In addition to wearing its love of black pop culture (jazz, blaxploitation, hip hop, Prince vs MJ, etc) as a badge of honor, Luke Cage features black characters from all parts of the socioeconomic spectrum, and depicts women in positions of power who kick ass and look really (REALLY!) good doing it.
But this isn't supposed to be a review of the show. I just wanted to share the video. CLICK HERE to cop Bulletproof Love on iTunes.
Have great day!

Meth drops in on Sway and Heather B's show to explain how Cage (himself on the run from cops) stopped to foil a robbery at a bodega. Of course, Cage and Meth recognize each other.
