I'm not gonna lie: Ta-Nehisi Coates is the reason I'm checking for this Captain America relaunch that's dropping on independence day.
Here's the sales pitch:IT IS WINTER IN AMERICA- For over 70 years, he has stood in stalwart defense of our country and its people. But in the aftermath of Hydra’s takeover of the nation, Captain America is a figure of controversy, carrying a tarnished shield…and a new enemy is rising! Who are the Power Elite? And how do they intend to co-opt and corrupt the symbol that is Captain America?
Leinil Yu is a fine comicbook artist. Captain America is the most iconic character Marvel has to offer. July 4th is one of the most blustery holla days this country celebrates. But what intrigues me here is the choice of writer. Fresh off his fanfarious stint as helmsman of Black Panther and the other Wakandaverse books, Coates is landing on Captain America. The Black Panther of white people.
I'm sure that's NOT Coates's angle, but I'm interested to see what it is.

We'll see soon enough...
Peace,

He is the artist of many great comics you never heard of like Herman Heed, Champion of Children, The Brother and The World As You Know It. He even writes and draws his own comics, like Dare: The Adventures of Darius Davidson, Spontaneous, and Manchild when he gets around to it. Because making comics is hard and stuff, he started GhettoManga as a blog in 2006 and as a print magazine in 2008.
