that new Breeze...

that dude Breeze Evahflowin has a new album called Breez Deez Treez in stores now. 3 years in the making, Breeze's new joint is a collection of songs about change, personal growth and the state of the music industry. There's no boastful raps about bling or the glories of the a gangster doing his thug thizzle, just thought-provoking bangers dealing with life's challenges and his struggle to maintain growth as an artist in a music industry dominated by materialism and gimmickry. word.

405 pages later

Remember Felipe Smith, ghettoManga Award-Winning writer/artist of MBQ? he's in Tokyo, Japan... DRAWING his TAIL off! as i told you before, after completing MBQ, Felipe bounced over to the Land of the Rising Sun to draw his parody manga Peepo Choo for the monthly Japanese anthology magazine Morning Two. now the first two full volume collections have been completed and dropped in stores! so while we were sleeping, dude has broken off not one but two 200-page volumes, and shows no signs of slowing down!

yes, your math is right... Felipe has drawn 405 pages of comics in one year! more pages than there's days on the calendar (even in leap year), in case you're wondering!
"The funny thing is, over here everybody works like that," Felipe shared with us over on his mySpace blog. "and I'm only publishing monthly. A lot of artists publish WEEKLY over here, so they'd just LAUGH at this..."
as you can imagine, he hasn't had much time to play with us on the internet over the last year, but he took a minute to let us know that Peepo Choo was out, and to break down the plot and the cast of characters! click any pic to bounce over to his blog for more pics and details! if you have no idea who Felipe is, PLEASE click the tag below and get familiar!

KING ME!!!

Brandon Graham's urban comicbook nerd wet dream KING CITY finally drops into comic shops next week!

after waiting what seems like forever, i'll finally be able to shake a fresh copy of Brandon Graham's King City #1 in the faces of the nonbelievers! yeah, it will be reprinting stuff i already have in the lonely Tokyopop OGN Brando dropped a coon's age ago, but i don't care! the list of stuff coming out these days that really inspires me to keep drawing comics is a short one, but dammit, King City is on that list! you buy the criterion collection of The Royal Tennenbaums... i'll buy King City in OGN, monthly, and Image TPB and we'll call it even, 'kay? i'm a religious zealot for this book, and if you read it, i PROMISE you'll understand why! whatever i need to do to help this book perform at least well enough to keep going, i'm happy to do!

sneak peak at new art from King City #5.
there's a SWEET review of King City in the next issue of ghettoManga Quarterly, so if you haven't pre-ordered yet, there's another incentive, doubting Thomas!

Dallas Comicon, Day One!

I had a blast at Dallas Comicon today! I didn't get a chance to get up and visit any of my friends' tables because we were super busy all day! it has been fun getting back into conventions, and this was the best one i've done in a while! here's a few pieces that were updated for this con. i had several prints leftover from previous shows, so with the new pieces i added, i had a good variety. i did some fan art, some of my own characters, and some non-comics stuff. i've found that people appreciate that you draw stuff other than comics... puts it in perspective, i guess! i wish the new issue of ghettoManga Quarterly had been ready(sigh), but it was still a great show.
it was a long day, but i'm looking forward to wrapping up tomorrow. i know some of the people who read this blog are from out of the area, so if you are interested in getting prints, let me know. all those who i met at this show, thanks for your support and thanks for reading!

people, get ready...

post by Corance (eerily accurate cartoon portrait by samax).
For everyone who couldn't make it to San Diego, Dallas is having it's own version. Dallas Comic-Con will be at the Richardson Civic-Center on August 15-16, and the mighty Ghostwerks Crew will be in attendance. I've been to this one quite a few times and it's always fun. I'm really looking foreward to this year because one of my favorite people in comics, Brian Stelfreeze will be there, along with Jason Pearson, Bill Sienkiewicz, and local greats Erick Reeves, Josh Howard and pretty much everybody else in comics who's tight. So if you're in the metroplex August 15-16, stop by and holler at us. Anyone who comes to the GhostWerks table and yells "GhostWerks is tha skwod!!!" at the top of their lungs gets a free ghettoManga keychain!
Here's a link to the con's web-site. bring a sketchbook and commission a sketch from one of the artists, and i will spit battle raps by request!
yes, yes, ya'll...
-Corance
in addition to being one-fifth the mighty ghostWerks crew, Corance is a writer, stand-up philosopher, and co-creator of Champion of Children, the greatest Kids' Comic you've never heard of. now that we have a black president, he is running out of excuses and will probably blow up soon.
