Comicbook World #36 - Carrot Top: Villain in the Making?
is it just me, Or does comedian Carrot Top seem like he's turning into a supervillain? last time i saw him, he was a skinny little dude who did gag comedy with props (because i guess he thought the world needed another Gallagher?), now he looks like a failed super-soldier test subject... so i was watching teevee the other day and saw him on a Burger King commercial looking like death warmed over! it went by so fast, i didn't notice that he had arms the size of tree trunks! it's understandable that someone in the entertainment biz would try to beef up to broaden their appeal for movie and teevee roles, but Carrot Top has the look of something a little more sinister... maybe years of movie role rejections and an impromptu ass-kicking by a buff heckler drove the wiry redheaded funnyman over the edge! when he turned to an evil pro-wrestling promoter for "something extra" to help him bulk up fast, they must'a gave him a bad cocktail of experimental hormones and steroids... i think we are witnessing the birth of a supervillain here! like that moment after Norman Osborne exposes himself to the chemicals, but before he puts on the Green Goblin mask for the first time? when chuckles' arms swelled up on him and burst through his shirts sleeves on some Hulk shit, i bet he choked the life out of the chemist and said "Back to formula?" you may think you're gonna get away with it, Carrot Top... but i'm wise to your ass...holla!

Comicbook World # 35- College Student Kills Burglar with Samurai Sword
East Warrior by NuditionAfter being victimized once before (thieves reportedly got him and his roommates for their laptops and a Sony PlayStation), an undergraduate medical student at Baltimore's prestigious Johns Hopkins University went all Rurouni Kenshin on Tuesday, killing a burglar with a samurai sword after he caught the intruder in his garage, police said. The student will not likely be charged with anything if the burglar's death is ruled self-defense.
Ronin by MaverikPolice received a call for help at 1:20 am after the burglar pried open a side-door into the garage of the house, which four students rented off-campus, according to Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "They asked him to stop and while they called police, the suspect lunged at the student. He then retaliated by striking him with a samurai sword, severed his left hand and gave severe lacerations to the upper torso," he said. "I think everyone has the right to first of all defend themselves and defend their home and if this individual felt that a samurai sword was an appropriate tool to do so, I'm not in a position to say that's good or bad," Guglielmi said.
Africana is Samurai by Evilyn81

Could this be a sign of things to come? could gun-control laws turn the samurai sword into the hot home invasion deterrent? Will rappers start toting them, till they have to be blurred out of rap vids on MTV? after reading about this on the AFP, i was definitely thinking about copping one of those samurai longswords those stinky guys are always selling at comic and anime conventions! i've been thinking about taking martial arts classes, but maybe swordsmanship might be needed as well. hmmm... i wonder if one of those stinky dudes can get me a blade that looks like the Green Destiny...

Expect the Unexpected
artwork and press release for DOOM's compilation disc Unexpected Guests, which is due to drop October 27th. this would be a GREAT look for all those fans out there new to the supervillainous emcee and beatsmith that needs to be in everybody's top ten. expect more on this as the blessed day approaches, minions!DOOM is one of the most original and uncompromising voices in hip-hop. From his work in the 90’s with the seminal KMD to his legendary releases under a variety of aliases including MF Doom, Madvillain, King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughn, Dangerdoom & more, his prolific body of work has always valued artistic integrity and creativity over anything else. As numerous and varied as his albums are, DOOM also has a thick catalog of guest appearances, remixes, non-album tracks, & vinyl only singles. For the first time, Unexpected Guest presents many of these hard to find tracks as a mix CD, executed and overseen by the Super Villain himself.
With a list of co-conspirators which includes marquee level names such as Talib Kweli, Ghostface & GZA as well as underground heroes Vast Aire, CountBass D & Kurius, the music on this disc highlights DOOM’s ever-present trademark wit and taste for raw and ominous beats. On “Trap Door,” he spits couplets like “No curse words / DOOM the worst church nerd verse heard” over a plucked bass and guitar line from producer Jake One that sounds like the funkiest spy movie soundtrack imaginable. “Sniper Elite” sees the emcee united with the late J Dilla, and is one of the many tracks featured that has yet to see an official CD release. The album will also feature a never before heard live version of DOOM’s classic “I Hear Voices” from the Operation Doomsday album.
Peppered with his signature comic book dialogue and vintage sound clips, Unexpected Guests presents a treasure trove of DOOM obscurities which should shed light on material that even some hardcore fans may have missed. It’s a frenetic, virtuosic look at a true hip-hop original.

2. Fly That Knot feat. DOOM - Talib Kweli

We're Famous by Aesop Rock f/El-Productoyo... up late drawing again. despite serious caffeination, i was having trouble getting going tonight until the rotation hit We're Famous off'a Aesop Rock's brilliant underground opus Bazooka Tooth, at which time it was off to the races! this is my shit, mostly for the autobiographical first verse by Def Jux founder El-P. 'Sop and El are mostly beefing with L7, Eso or some other dudes in their crew... but that's not why i like this song. this joint has two gritty emcees who pretty much cut a path in the underground and mastered the art of being obscure and famous at the same time. on this song, they revel in it, and diss cats just for the fun of it, over a beat that's old school and futuristic at the same time! i remember bumping this a few years ago when i was dating this chick from houston, who could not understand why i was geeking over these two white dudes from new york! she was listening to David Banner and Li'l Flip at the time, so i understood why she didn't get it, but for a cat like me who's been working hard at being an overnight underground success for ten years, this joint hit me right in the chest!
well, i gotta get back to work...

Girl on Girl
i got free previews of Black Panther #9 and The Sword #19 for the people! first, the new Black Panther gets her struggle on against some chick named Predator while dodging bullets and explosions (and looking good doing it). goes with the job sister... i've been enjoying Black Panther since the relaunch. The new Panther has her predecessor's sharp attitude, and i must say i'm intrigued by what they're doing with T'challa (the previous Black Panther) behind the scenes, too. click the pic for a preview of this issue, which drops October 7th.
Meanwhile, everbody's favorite red-headed killing machine Dana Breighton has already merked two of the three immortal elemental siblings who murdered her family, but it looks like their sister Malia is the smartest and deadliest of the three! if you've never read The Sword, this preview can't do anything to prepare you for how good it is, so do yourself a favor and cop the trade paperbacks collecting the series so you can catch up! still, you may as well read this preview anyways! The Sword is my favorite book in years... The Lunas know how to craft a good story that will have you biting your nails (not easy to do while holding a comicbook, i don't mind telling you...), and shocks you by snapping from 0 to 60 in an instant. anyways, The Sword #19 will be in stores September 17thholla!

Fantastic FAIL
Looks like Fox is jumbing on the Reboot Bandwagon with Fantastic Four. in the wake of the Disney takeover, word got out that they have tapped Michael Green- writer/producer on Heroes, Everwood, Smallville and the new Green Lantern joint- to write a screenplay about Marvel's first family. Along with X-men, Spiderman and Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four is one of the Marvel movie properties that Disney didn't snag the film rights to when they bought the House of Ideas for a cool $4 billion. i wouldn't go so far as to say the Fantastic Four movies were garbage, but i WOULD call them ill-conceived. I watch these films like i eat seafood gumbo: i pick out and throw away the parts i don't like. There's actually a lot to like about the films, but i could never bring myself to endorse them. So maybe this time, they will get Dr. Doom and Galactus right.so what do you guys think? do you think they should reboot it, stick with a sequel, or just let go of the Fantastic Four movie dream? did you like the FF flicks? say something!
