You should already know I'm a HUGE fan of cartoonist and filmmaker Yehudi Mercado (Pantelones, TX; Buffalo Speedway), so when I saw this limited edition print FIGHT (a Beastie Boys tribute) in his online store, I had to share it with you!
I'm sure Mercado was stunned like the rest of us when MCA passed in May of 2012 after a long fight with cancer. Many artists handled it the way Mercado did: with the pen. We all know the Beasties grew beyond the brain-dead hip hop party rockers of their 1986 hit Fight For Your Right (To Party), but thanks to the power of pre-segregated MTV, the video for this song is burned into the collective unconscious of a generation...
Mercado created FIGHT to be part of Guzu Gallery's art show, Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to our Favorite Music Heroes. The show took place during the world-famous SXSW Music Festival in Austin.
FIGHT is screen printed onto 12.5 x 12.5 inch 100 lb cardstock paper. Only 50 of these bad boys were printed and each print is signed and numbered. Now that the smoke has cleared, Yehudi is selling the remaining prints in his online store, so click here to cop one for just $25 (while supplies last, of course).
